Well, this can’t be called SUV or crossover, but it brings some really interesting features on the table, and besides that, it has the “ALL TERRAIN” in its name, so we must wright some words about it. The popular German car manufacturer is working on an evolutionary E-class station wagon version, which will be known as the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain.
2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain: Styling and Rivals
Although declared as the wagon model, the 2017 E-Class All Terrain seems to have some similarities with Mercedes’ latest crossovers. Of course, the body is more wagon-like and rather lower, but we feel there is plenty of crossover blood there. Compared to the regular wagon, the All Terrain will be more premium, and turned to the luxury segment that already has such a great cars like Audi’s A6 Allroad or Volvo’s amazing V90 Cross Country.
Anyway, the prototype we saw features some interesting details. The carmaker used the regular wagon model as a testing mule, but there are few changes, which show us what to expect from the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain. This high-end model sports taller ride height and wider body. We know because of the widened arches, which will also house larger wheels for sure. In addition, there are certain changes on the ends, so you may notice new bumpers, while the carmaker could update the lightening cluster too.
Drivetrain and Features
Performance wise, well we must say that the 2017 E-Class All Terrain won’t be exactly the all-terrain vehicle. It’s actually just the taller wagon, but not some hard-core off-roader. Okay, the manufacturer will add plenty of useful features like the standard 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, 4ETS electronic traction system, and even multi-chamber air suspension, but essentially, the car isn’t for rough terrains.
As for the engines, this premium wagon will likely skip the smaller engines from its regular sibling. It’s more likely to expect more powerful six-cylinder options, possibly a twin turbo 3.0-liter unit with 355 horsepower.
Arrival
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain will be introduced at the 2016 Paris Auto Show in September, yet the US model is still uncertain.
