The next generation Toyota 4Runner is right behind the corner, but in this moment there is nothing except the rumors about this mid-size SUV. What we know is that the all-new model arrives sometime next year, and that it will once again borrow a platform from the Hilux and Tacoma pickup trucks. In addition to the underpinnings, the SUV might get their new engines too, so if it happens, the 2017 Toyota 4Runner could easily feature a new gasoline six-cylinder engine with direct injection, and possibly one diesel option.

The all-new 3.5-liter V6 gets optimized fuel injection and an Atkinson power cycle, which is a kind of hybrid system. The engine comes with both six-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission, and it will feature improved fuel efficiency.
