2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Spy (Ready for 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show?)

A prototype of Alfa Romeo’s SUV is spotted for the first time, so now we are able to see in what direction goes the development. The testing vehicle is still deeply buried under the heavy camouflage, but regardless the fact, it is pretty obvious that the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio gets quite interesting bodywork.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Design: A little bit of everything

Judging by the spy photos, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will share a lot of stuff with the new Giulia. This especially refers to the front end, which sports the familiar grille design and identical headlights. The rest of the body, especially the roofline features a coupe-like design, which is much like the Maserati Levante. The compact crossover could get Levante’s rear end styling as well. This is quite expected since the carmaker announced that the 2018 Stelvio should largely resemble the Maserati’s brilliant SUV.

There are some mighty engines

Anyway, the all-new compact crossover will share the underpinnings with the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Still, the rear-wheel-drive “Giorgio” platform should be modified a little bit, so the stylish vehicle should offer a standard rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as an option. The US-specs of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be powered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that will deliver 276 horsepower. Allegedly, the remarkable SUV will get a range-topping Stelvio Quadrifoglio trim level that will be paired with a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 engine that produces 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. In Europe, the carmaker will also add two oil-burners – A 2.2-liter and a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel. The drivetrains will be matted to six-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Pretty high price. Lands at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show

According to reports, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will enter into production very soon, so the SUV could be introduced this November at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. There is no official information about the possible price, but the first estimates indicate pretty high starting price of around $45K.
