2018 Ford Expedition Redesign: Aluminum SUV gets a 2.7-liter EcoBoost and F-150’s front end

The next-generation Expedition is almost ready. Well, not quite ready, but it will be in about two years, or even before. In any case, the prototype is spotted for the first time, ant if you believe the rumors the 2018 Ford Expedition will adopt the same aluminum treatment as the F-150, Super Duty and Raptor pickup trucks. This way, the carmaker plans to shed some significant weights from its full-size SUV.

2018 Ford Expedition Redesign: Aluminum body and new tech

Except it will get the aluminum body, the new generation Ford Expedition will also receive certain styling cues from the F-150 pickup truck. This particularly refers to the front end, which now look almost the same as the F-150’s. In addition, the rear end will receive a big redesign, and as you may notice, it looks sloped and pretty stylish. However, one thing that won’t be changed is the profile that appears to be identical. This is a good thing, because this way the 2018 Expedition should keep its spacious and cozy interior. Speaking of the interior, except of the complete redesign, and new tech, we expect to see Ford’s latest SYNC 3 infotainment system.

2018 Ford Expedition Engines: A 2.7-l EcoBoost will get a chance

The current model has recently got a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that delivers 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and we are sure that this engine stays with the 2018 Ford Expedition. However, this time the SUV should have better performance and especially better fuel economy numbers. This is because of the aluminum body panels, which are speculated to shave the weigh for several hundred pounds (some rumors say that the base model should weight around 5,000 pounds). The new curb weight will give the new Expedition a chance to get even smaller engine. An amazing 2.7-liter EcoBoost is the first on the list, and we believe that it will be under the hood of the outstanding “lightweight” full-size SUV.

The all-new Expedition SUV will arrive sometime in 2017, which reminded us that then will also come the new-generation Navigator as well. These two are already amazing SUVs, and since both should receive the aluminum diet, you will be able to choose between two incredible vehicles. Which one will you choose?
