Well, these are some really great and quite exciting news. The world will see the second generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Yes, after the first-gen model that was introduced in 1979 and newer been redesigned the German manufacturer has decided to do a complete revamp of the iconic SUV. The all-new model should arrive sometime next year, so we can expect the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: Changes
The first spy shots are very tricky, so we don’t see all the changes on the prototype. Still, although the impressive SUV didn’t change anything significant on the bodywork for around 40 years, we don’t expect any radical turns on the exterior. The carmaker will rather introduce the vehicle with a little bit softened lines, which still resemble the old model. However, it’s evident that the 2018 G-Class is getting wider yet lowered body with new suspension systems. In place of the outdated setups, the SUV will likely feature the pneumatic suspension, while the new architecture should shed some really big kilos from the body. The vehicle will get plenty of high-strength steel and aluminum, so the weight should go down for almost 900 pounds, which is quite amazing.
Engine Options
As for the engine options, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will definitely offer a wide range of amazing mills. The iconic off-roader will start from inline six gasoline and diesel engines, but you can also expect a hybrid drivetrain. Still, the most exciting model will get a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine. The amazing unit is able to deliver 510 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, so there will be plenty of power there.
Arrival
There is still nothing official regarding the arrival of the SUV, but the reports indicate that we might see it early next year. This means that the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class could appear at the next Geneva Motor Show, while we should have to wait for the 2017 New York Auto Show.
