2018 Mercedes Benz GLA: Facelifted, Higher, Better

This isn’t the first time we see a prototype of the facelited 2018 Mercedes Benz GLA, but it’s the first time we see some essential changes. Until now, we were pretty sure that there will be just small cosmetic tweaks inside and out, yet without any important improvements. Judging by the newest spy shots we got, the compact SUV will be more off-road oriented, so in addition to the handsome design and impressive cab, you will be able to go in some rock-climbing adventures.

Better Ground Clearance

So far, the interesting crossover had pretty low ride height of around 5.5 inches. Yes, you were able to choose a higher off-road package with 6.7-inches, but this would cost you extra. This will definitely change with the arrival of the updated 2018 GLA, because the high-riding car is getting one additional inch, so the regular ground clearance will be around 6.5 inches. For instance, the new GLA will be high from the ground almost like the famous G-Class SUV, so you will be able to go off road without any doubt.

Cosmetic Changes

Styling wise, the car manufacturer will definitely refresh front and rear parts of the crossover. In the front, the car is getting an updated headlight design with new graphics and maybe the new bumper. Around back, you can expect mildly refreshed taillights and nothing more. The interior changes will be minor too. Some rumors indicate that the SUV could get an updated infotainment with bigger touchscreen, as well as some design tweaks, like new upholstery and more interesting colors.

Under The Hood

This interesting vehicle will continue with the same engine options. This was pretty expected because the German automaker already made some changes on the 2016 model. The base option will stay a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive. Of course, the all-wheel drive comes as an option. If you want something wilder, then you could reconsider an impressive AMG version. This crossover uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter mill, which deliver 375 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The engine turns on all four wheels and reaches 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

The updated 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA will arrive sometime in 2017.
