2018 Volkswagen Atlas Preview

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas won’t become available before next spring. Still, it seems that the all-new SUV can easily become very popular in US. VW’s new three-row vehicle is actually made for the North American drivers. No we are not saying it won’t be sold worldwide, but the overall impression is that this isn’t German, but pure American SUV.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas: Styling and Features

Both the interior and exterior of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is very handsome. From the outside, the SUV is actually the pretty the same as the e CrossBlue Coupe concept. It’s muscular and very dynamic, and what’s more important, sports plenty of amazing details. Headlights, and daytime running lights are LED, but you can chose LED taillights as well.

The interior features everything, but it’s not our favorite, because of the boring dashboard, which looks pretty much the same as Passat’s. Still, what’s more important, the 2018 VW Atlas offers everything you actually need inside, and even more. There are Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink, as well as Digital Cockpit that replaces the analog instrument cluster. An amazing 12-speaker Fender audio system is optional. The most impressive part of the cabin is the overall space without any doubt. The car rides on the MQB platform, and gets 198.3 inches of length, which is class leading result. This makes impressive space for all three rows of seating. Moreover, the long rear doors and easy folding rear seat enables easy entry in the third row.

SUV’s driver assistance is really impressive. There is adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, a lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, and post-collision braking.

Engines

Volkswagen’s new SUV is available with two engines. Of course, neither of them is diesel, which is rather expected because of the recent scandal. In any case, the SUV gets the base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 238 horsepower and a 3.6-liter VR6 mill with 280 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will be paired with an eight speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the four-cylinder engine gets only front-wheel drive system, while the VR6 gets optional 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The carmaker hasn’t released any fuel economy figures, but we should find out more about his matter in the coming days.
