2018 Volkswagen Atlas R-Line: Sporty Package Will Be Introduced At 2017 Detroit

VW is dressing up its all-new there-row SUV for the 2017 Detroit auto show. After the regular model, the German car manufacturer plans to introduce the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas R-Line. The crossover is essentially the same, but it packs a little bit sportier appearance and upscale features.

The R-Line package will be available on SE and SEL trims. The exterior includes several styling tweaks, so you will see more aggressive bumpers and snazzier side skirts. There are also shiny 20-inch alloy wheels, as well as special “R-Line” badging. In the back, the SUV gets a glossy black rear diffuser. Inside, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas R-Line packs only stainless steel pedal covers and the badge on the steering wheel. Everything else stays unchanged, so we have to say that we are not too impressed with the sporty line.

Under the hood, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas R-Line gets nothing new. A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 delivers 235 horsepower and comes as the standard options, while the optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine produces 276 hp. Both units are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system comes as an option with the V6 mill only.

There are no official words regarding the price of the interesting SUV, but we are pretty sure it won’t go over the competition. After all the last year diesel-emissions scandal has caused a great damage to VW’s reputation, so they have to restore trust. And the best way for that is good quality and a low price. As for the 2018 VW Atlas R-Line, we believe it will cost around $35K.
