2018 Volkswagen Golf SUV: Platform and Design

The upcoming VW Golf SUV will compete in the most lucrative segment, so the carmaker will have to pay a lot of attention to all details. The vehicle will ride on the updated MQB platform, which will allow both short and long-wheelbase models. As for the possible design, we have no exact details, but since it will carry Golf name, it has to have some similarities with its hatchback sibling. Moreover, the new SUV should come as a luxury player, so there must be some high end styling tweak and features.

Possible Engines

The 2018 Volkswaen Golf SUV will be sold worldwide, so there should be a big number of engine options. In addition, the regular version will be specially made for Europe, while the long-wheelbase model comes in China and North America. In Europe, the 2018 Golf SUV will likely offer a base 1.4-litre TSI engine with 150 horsepower. The engine could also come paired with an electric motor, so the SUV might appear as the plug-in hybrid as well. The electric motor will pack around 102 horses, which makes the drivetrain pretty powerful, and yet, with good fuel economy numbers. In addition, the powertrain will be paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and boosted with cylinder deactivation and start-stop system. The US model will probably offer a 1.8-liter TSI and maybe a 2.0-liter TDI, with an optional 4Motion system.

Rumored Price and Arrival

There is no reliable information about release date, but we think it will be introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show. The rumored starting price is around $22,000, but we think it will be more expensive.
