2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover Spy and Specs

The unnamed, big and stylish crossover that is spied today in Southern California seems to be the newest baby from Volkswagen. The German carmaker is awfully late with the long time rumored three-row crossover. Ok, they have the Touareg, but this is not the best they can do for sure. Judging by this totally undisguised prototype, the new vehicle is almost done, but it won’t be released before the early 2017. The carmaker haven’t say anything about it for now, so we don’t know the actual name of this new 2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover.

2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover: Styling and Comfort

The exterior styling of the 2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover carries some rather familiar things. The manufacturer took certain details from CrossBlue concept, which is quite evident from the side, which looks pretty identical. In addition, the new mid-size crossover sports similar rear end, while the front fascia looks totally different. The vehicle gets an all-new grille and reworked bumper, but keeps the concept’s lightening cluster. We haven’t seen the interior yet, but the car will definitely offer a higher level of comfort from the Touareg. Compared to it, the 2018 VW Three-Row Crossover will get 3.4-inches longer wheelbase (117.3), which will make it more cozy and spacious.

2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover: Platform and Engines

The new crossover will use the scalable MQB modular platform that can work with a wide range of engines. However, despite the fact, the carmaker won’t add more than two options. The first will be the Passat’s upgraded 3.6-liter V6 engine that should be able to deliver at least 300 horsepower. The unit will be paired with a six-speed auto transmission and standard front-wheel or optional all-wheel drive. The second engine will be a 2.0-liter turbo, which could produce up to 230hp. If everything goes well, the producer will add a plug-in hybrid powertrain a year later.

2018 Volkswagen Three-Row Crossover: Price and Rivals

The 2018 VW Three-Row Crossover will enter into the strongest segment that includes such a great model like the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, Kia Sorento and similar model, so the carmaker might start pretty low with the price. The first estimates indicate quite responsible cost of around $30,000.
