2018 Volvo XC40: All-New Compact Crossover – Rumors and Specs


Sweden carmaker Volvo recently unveiled its midterm strategy, and except they plan to do the electrification of its whole lineup, they also work on several new models, which will start to coming for two or three years. The first planned all-new model has been spotted already, and judging by the recent rumors, it is the 2018 Volvo XC40 – the compact crossover SUV.

The all-new compact SUV is in developing phase for several years, but now it seems that the manufacturer finally knows in which direction will go the future design. By looking the first spy shoots, the 2018 Volvo XC40 will likely feature smooth and dynamic lines and highly modern details. The compact crossover is actually based on S40 model, so its proportions tell us that the vehicle should compete against Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and similar. The dynamic design will be additionally enriched with some cues, which we already saw on the astonishing XC90 SUV. This will be especially evident at the front and rear ends that will feature XC90’s distinctive lights. As for the interior styling, we expect to see the modern and shiny cabin with plenty soft touch materials and advanced infotainment system. Swedish automaker is already world-renowned with its high safety ratings, so there is no chance they will miss to load the new XC40 SUV with best they have in the moment.

2018 Volvo XC40: Platform and Engines

The XC40 will use the new CMA platform, so it will be able to offer a wide range of engines. However, the options of the 2018 Volvo XC40 will depend on the market. The European model should offer a wide range of options like D2, D3, and D4 diesel engines, and the T2, T3, T4, and T5 gasoline engines. On the other side of the pond, we will get just two versions: The smaller T4 unit with 180 horsepower, while the other US-specs model should offer a T5 engine, which will deliver 245 horsepower.

2018 Volvo XC40: Price and Release Date

The exact release date is unknown at the moment, but the first information say that the 2018 Volvo XC40 should be introduced in late 2017. Since it will compete against BMW X1, Volvo’s new compact SUV will probably get a starting price under $30,000.
