2018 VW Atlas Will Be The Name Of The New 3-row SUV

We were pretty sure that the all-new three-row crossover from Volkswagen will be named the Teramont, but the latest reports indicate that there will be no such a vehicle. Instead, we will wait for the arrival of the new crossover, which will be named the 2018 VW Atlas. The name is rather strange, because the German car manufacturer always uses “T” for the first letter of the name of the high-riding cars. However, judging by the reports the Atlas is more American and easier to use, so this time they skipped the rule.

The main characteristic of the SUV will be the third row of seating. This so much needed space inside seems pretty cozy inside of the 2018 Atlas, which is no wonder at all, because the measures almost 200 inches in the length. No, the SUV won’t have any individual platform. Instead, the carmaker will use the ultra-stretchable MQB platform.

The architecture can easily accommodate a range of various engines, yet the car manufacturer is currently thinking to introduce only two options. The first will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 238 horsepower, while if you want something bigger, you can always choose the updated 3.6-liter mill. The engine will produce between 280 and 300 horsepower. Some reports indicate that there could be some kind of diesel under the hood. Well, we think otherwise, especially due the last year scandal. Instead, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas could get a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The new three-row SUV is already introduced in the concept form in 2013, and the production model won’t differ too much from it, so you can expect amazing CrossBlue concept in the production-ready form.

In any case, the 2018 VW Atlas should be officially introduced this November at the upcoming 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show, but before that, the carmaker could present it at the Santa Monica, California on October 27.
