Cadillac is definitely building one more all-new crossover. We know that because we managed to catch a prototype that appears to be the 2019 Cadillac XT4. The brand new SUV has been spotted in snowy Finland while it was checking out its abilities. It was using a heavy camouflage, so we were unable to see the details. However, the overall shape is pretty familiar, which give us the idea what’s going on beneath.
Judging by the spy shots, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will likely borrow plenty of details from the bigger XT5. As you may notice, the new compact crossover features an identical C-pillar, as well as XT5’s typical rear bumper with distinctive exhaust tips. According to the carmaker, Cadillac’s future high-riding vehicle will be available in Europe too, which means it will be the biggest rival with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes GLC. This means it should be at least as luxurious as the competitors. Because of that, the manufacturer will probably add a number of useful features and premium materials only.
The 2019 XT4 SUV will share a platform with the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. The D2XX architecture includes a range of turbocharged engines as well. More precisely, the US model will probably use a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine that’s capable of delivering up to 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. In Europe, the producer will also add a smaller 1.5-liter turbo, which is going to deliver 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of twist, as well as one oil-burner mill. It will be the 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 136 ponies and 236 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Of course, the carmaker won’t skip the chance to add an optional all-wheel drive.
Cadillac’s luxurious compact crossover will be introduced either late this year or in early 2018. However, it won’t hit the showrooms before the end of next year. It’s still early to talk about the price, yet we think will start at around $30K, or a little bit above.
