2019 Jeep Wrangler Diesel won’t be ready for 2018 Los Angels auto show

Jeep’s iconic SUV needs just a few details to be ready for its official debut. The off-roader is scheduled to arrive late this year, so we suppose that the job is done. Well, most of the job, because the 2018 Jeep Wrangler won’t get a diesel unit as it was originally planned. Instead, the oil-burner will come sometime later, most likely as the 2019 model.

2019 Jeep Wrangler Diesel

The main reason for the delay is carmaker’s struggling with pretty tight diesel regulation standards for U.S. However, as we have found out the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Diesel has been caught while it was testing its engine, which means that the car manufacturer founded the way to comply EPA fuel-economy rules.

Although the producer hasn’t said anything, we are pretty sure that the 2019 Wrangler Diesel will rely on a 3.0L EcoDiesel V-6. The amazing option currently delivers 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque under the hood of the Ram 1500 Diesel, so we assume it won’t deliver less when it comes along with the new generation Wrangler. Moreover, some reports indicate that Jeep prepares an updated version, which will be both more powerful and more efficient. Of course, the engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In case you have no intention of waiting for the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Diesel, you can always look for the gasoline models. Aside it will be available before the oil-burner the models should be cheaper options as well. Okay, the base Wrangler with an updated 3.6L Pentastar V-6 will cost less without any doubt. However, we can’t really say how much it will cost the model with an optional 2.0L turbocharged I-4 mill. This so-called Hurricane engine comes exclusively mated to an automatic transmission, while the V6 Wrangler offers both the eight-speed auto and a manual gearbox.

Prototypes of the new generation Wrangler has been spied so many times over the year. However, no one can say for sure what’s going to happen with SUV’s roof. According to information we have, the short-wheelbase model will likely keep folding soft top and removable hard top options, but that won’t be the case with the 2018 Wrangler Unlimited. No, this version will use a power sliding hard top only.

As we announced earlier, the gasoline 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be introduced at this year’s Los Angeles auto show. There are no official words regarding the arrival of the 2019 Wrangler Diesel. However, judging by the latest rumors, the SUV is scheduled for the 2018 New York auto show.
