This isn’t the first time we see a prototype of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE, yet the new spy shots are pointing out something that we haven’t seen until now. The German car manufacturer will definitely reduce SUV’s weight by using a new, so-called MHA platform that includes plenty of high-strength steel and aluminum, but this won’t be the only way of boosting car’s economy. No, the latest prototype hasn’t managed to hide an uncommon braking system, which suggests the use of hybrid technology.
Yes, and what’s more important, the majority of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE models will have this kind of help. Judging by the new front brake discs, the big SUV will almost definitely get a mild hybrid technology. It’s basically the familiar regenerative braking system that uses a 48-Volt setup to transform kinetic energy into electricity. The mild hybrid technology will almost certainly cooperate with all four- and six-cylinder engines (yes, both gasoline and oil-burners will use such a system), while the mighty eight-cylinder model should not have such a help. Yet, on the other hand, the V8 will be available under the hood of the AMG model only. It’s pretty important for you to know that the carmaker also prepares a plug-in hybrid version as well, which won’t have anything in common with the mild-hybrid technology.
As for the other changes, the prototype suggests that the next generation GLE is getting a revolutionary redesign. The SUV will totally different from its predecessor, which is quite clear due to the lower design, a new front-end styling, and sleeker profile. This particular testing model shows a pair of new LED headlights and a completely new grille, while the rear end sports pretty interesting and ultra-slim taillights, which are borrowed from the gorgeous Mercedes-AMG GT. The rest of the new cues are still hidden beneath the camouflage, but as it will be closer to the official debut, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will show more new cues.
According to the latest reports, the awesome SUV will be introduced in 2018 at Geneva Motor Show, so there is plenty of time for us to found out more information.
