Smart’s idea to introduce an SUV isn’t going to stay just the idea. The car manufacturer is actually working on this kind of vehicle, which should be introduced in late 2018 or early 2019. Reportedly, the 2019 Smart SUV is going to have a lot in common with the ForStars concept car. And this means it will attack the B-segment.
Styling wise, the future subcompact SUV would probably largely resemble the aforementioned concept. This also means it will be the biggest rival with the popular Nissan Juke, and just the biggest rival, it will be more fashionable than useful. This so-called “Sports Utility Coupe” look is something that we don’t like too much, but it sells goods, so we must respect it.
In addition, the fancy-schmancy exterior and interior design, the 2019 Smart SUV will likely ride on the rear-wheel drive architecture, just the same as it uses the new Renault Twingo. This will bring some interesting powertrain options under the hood, possibly the ultra-efficient 3-cylinder engines, as well as one fully-electric drivetrain.
