2020 Acura MDX Type S Spotted Testing Again

Motor1 have managed to catch a testing prototype of the 2020 Acura MDX Type S yet again. Guess what? The sporty mid-size SUV still wears pretty heavy cladding, so we are not able to figure out what’s cooking beneath. As far as we can tell, the camouflaged crossover hides some production-ready details including a pair of headlights. In case you’ve forgotten, the previous testing mule came coupled with some quite odd placeholder lenses.

In addition to the new LED headlights, the MDX Type S seems to be featuring a lowered front fascia and restyled air intakes. On the other hand, the grille probably keeps an identical shape. The most important detail from the outside is around back. The SUV comes fitted with quad exhaust tips. Another giveaway is lowered suspension and a quartet of larger wheels, which come fitted with beefier brakes.

According to our insider, the 2020 Acura MDX Type S will use the company’s new turbocharged V6 engine. Reportedly, the option will develop over 350 horsepower and will power all-wheel drive via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Motor1 has another theory that includes some electricity. Their speculations connect the upcoming SUV with the recently introduced MDX Sport Hybrid system that was recently tweaked for Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The powertrain combines the automaker’s 3.5-liter unit with Acura’s familiar three-motor setup for a total output of 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Tough this one comes paired with a seven-speed DCT.

No matter which one option the automaker chooses for the 2020 MDX Type S, it will make the SUV fast and exciting to drive without any doubt. Speaking of excitements, even though we can’t see what’s going on inside, we are absolutely sure that the cabin is going to get special treatment.

The awesome option should be officially revealed in less than six months from now, which means that we could see some more revealing prototypes in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for updates.
