2020 Cadillac XT5 Introduces A New Turbo-Four Engine

Cadillac introduced the updated 2020 XT5 a few days ago. However, this is the Chinese-spec version of the mid-size crossover, so the North American market could get a little bit different model.

Under The Hood

This one comes paired with an all-new engine for which we believe is going to available here too. It’s the Tripower 2.0-liter turbo-4 mill that pumps out 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The unit sends power to all-wheel-drive via a 9-speed automatic transmission. As we said, the U.S.-spec SUV will probably share the engine, but it will most definitely use front-wheel drive system as standard and all-wheel drive as a more expensive option.

About the name of the new engine: The Tripower stands for three operating modes – the most aggressive 4-cylinder high-power mode, mid-ranged 4-cylinder low-power mode, and the most efficient  2-cylinder fuel-savings mode. According to EPA-rating, when fitted with the unit, the XT5 will deliver a respectable fuel economy result of 313 mpg/combined.

While the Chinese version of the crossover stays limited to the turbo-four option, the U.S.-spec 2020 Cadillac XT5 will most definitely continue with the current 3.6-liter V-6.

Changes, Features, And Updates

Styling changes are mostly cosmetic. Up front, the 2020 XT5 gets updated grille. More precisely, the new one completely mirrors the XT4’s grille.  In the back, the mid-size crossover shows an updated and more aerodynamic rear spoiler, while side mirrors appear to be built with the same purpose as the spoiler. The Luxury trim level will add bright Galvano exterior accents, while Sport variants adopt gloss black treatment.

Inside, the refreshed SUV reveals new rotary dial for a new version of the CUE infotainment system, as well as the Electronic Precision Shift gear selector borrowed from the CT5. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 comes fitted with new rear seats which can slide back and forth up to 5.5 inches. There’s also a new 14-speaker Bose audio system, as well as up to 14 new or upgraded active and passive safety features including an automatic braking system, a digital rearview mirror, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, automatic parking assist, and lane keep assist with lane departure warning.
