2020 Hyundai Palisade 8-Seat SUV Spotted Testing

According to Auto Guide, Hyundai has filed to trademark the names “Palisade” and “Grandeur” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The names are reportedly reserved for SUVs. More precisely, we are not sure what the Korean car manufacturer plans to do with “Grandeur”, while the 2020 Hyundai Palisade should be the official name of the all-new full-size 8-seat SUV.

The SUV has been spotted several times until now, while we also have some on the vehicle from our sources. When we put all pieces together, we see a large high-riding vehicle which is going to have pretty much the same characteristics as the Kia Telluride. Moreover, the newcomer twins are going to share mechanics and most likely powertrains. Styling influence will, on the other hand, come from the new Santa Fe.

There’s not too many information regarding the platform at the moment. Though, according to Won-Hee Lee, the chief executive officer of the Hyundai Motor Company, the SUV will ride on a dedicated architecture. The chassis might be derived from some existing option, such as Santa Fe or even the Kia K-900. Either way, the carmaker will likely stick to a unibody construction. How come? Well, they don’t have any experience in making body-on-frame, and what’s more important, the carlike design will enable a far better driving and handling.

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade will definitely use a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. The option currently delivers 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque under the hood of the Santa Fe, so it seems like a perfect option for the base model. The Korean carmaker has promised at least 15 electrified models by 2020, which means that the 8-seat SUV could get some electric aid. In addition, the 2020 Palisade should become a worthy rival to American full-size SUVs thanks to the topping option. According to our source, the most potent model will get the 5.0-liter V8 from the K900.

Even though it’s still completely covered, the prototype of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade provides curiosity on every step because of the large footprint. The camouflage reportedly hides a bold design in the front which combines Santa Fe’s grille with slim LED daytime running lights. The rear hatch seems to be more upright than Santa Fe’s, but we think this is good because thus the three-row SUV is going to provide more space inside. In addition, the 2020 Palisade hides a pair of interesting and vertical taillights.

Inside, the full-sizer will get a number of useful features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and most likely analog instrument cluster. The seats (probably leather-treated) will be heated and ventilated, while the driver should enjoy in 20-way adjustable driver’s seat.

Stay tuned for updates.
