Mercedes’ high-performance department has something to show at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show. They are bringing the awesome 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 4Matic+ – an SUV that’s not as powerful as the topping GLE63, but still mighty enough to fire up your adrenaline when you hit the gas pedal.
According to AMG, the gorgeous SUV is arriving paired with a Mercedes’ new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine that’s coupled with a mild-hybrid system. The powertrain which is also supported by a compressor develops 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. As you can see, the output is a V8-like, yet the powerful drivetrain provides around 20 percent better fuel efficiency than a V8. The mighty mill comes hooked up to a nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic+ fully variable all-wheel drive. SUV’s top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, while a 0-62 mph time has been estimated to be around 5.2 seconds.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 comes fitted with the automaker’s recognizable air suspension system that has been additionally supported with roll stabilization. The SUV gets three suspension modes, so the driver can choose Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. Though, we can’t skip mentioning Trail and Sand modes that are designed for off-roading. In addition, the suspension is also fitted with a pneumatic self-leveling for both the front and rear axles. Thanks to the feature the SUV can provide an additional ground clearance of 55 millimeters (over 2 inches).
Zooming in on the front and rear aprons, we can conclude that the AMG GLE53 looks breathtaking without any exaggeration. Along with the aggressive front fascia with plenty of air intakes (some fake, some real), the SUV host AMG’s distinctive Panamericana grille and a pair of quite interesting LED headlights. In the back, the powerful model shows chromed quad-exhaust tips and amazing taillights, while the side of the SUV gives us a good look at the beautiful 20-inch alloy wheels with AMG lettering. The front wheels are fitted with uprated brakes that are using 15.75-inch discs.
Take a look inside and you will see AMG-specific displays for the infotainment system. Of course, the multimedia is Mercedes-Benz MBUX and it’s standard. There’s a large central entertainment screen among the displays, as well as fully-digital gauge cluster. Driver’s hand will fall on an AMG Performance steering wheel in black Nappa leather with red top-stitching.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 which is essentially the successor of the previous-generation GLE43 won’t become available in dealerships before fall. The German automaker hasn’t released any pricing details so far.
