2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA Spied Camouflaged: Looks Bigger, Gets New Platform

Mercedes’ recently introduced GLA crossover won’t stay too long because the car manufacturer already works on the successor. The refreshed vehicle should last until the second half of 2019, and then they will bring a completely redesigned 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA. We know that because we managed to catch the first test mule while it was testing its new platform.

Yes, the new generation GLA is getting the new architecture. The crossover will use a so-called MFA2 platform that will definitely shed some serious weight and improve rigidity thanks to a higher level of aluminum and high-strength steel. The new underpinning will be able to support more engine options, so the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA could easily get some kind of plug-in hybrid and diesel options. Of course, the car manufacturer won’t miss the chance to add an updated turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. This mill will allegedly deliver up to 400 horsepower under the hood of the next-gen Mercedes-AMG GLA45.

We can’t say much about the future appearance of the small crossover. No, the camouflage isn’t too big problem. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA uses just an improvised body of the redesigned A-Class, so the only facts we can conclude refer to the new dimensions. From what we see here, you will be able to enjoy in more space inside. The vehicle gets both, longer and wider body, as well as a few additional inches between the wheels. Styling-wise, we must say that we would be delighted if the carmaker decides to add more ruggedness. If not, the new generation GLA will continue to look as some kind of a hatchback on steroids.

Stay tuned for updates.
