2020 Rivian R1T Revealed and Detailed

The 2020 Rivian R1T is definitely one of the biggest stars of this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The mid-size pickup truck is not only an electric-powered vehicle but a true workhorse that seems to be capable of winning the game. How? Well, first of all, the electric truck looks truly stunning. Still, that’s not as important as it is a number of stand-out features that the vehicle offers for a reasonable amount of money.

Price Of The Rivian R1T

The automaker already accepts pre-orders for the R1T. The required deposit for the pickup truck is $1,000, while the entry-level model is going to cost around $69,000 ($61,500 after the federal tax credit). On the other hand, the topping version of the electric workhorse will be priced at about $90,000.

Powertrain Specs

The starter is going to combine a 105-kWh battery and 402-hp drivetrain for a total driving range of 230 miles.

Potential buyers, however, will also be able to choose between 135- and 180-kilowatt-hour capacities. The first one will enable a driving range of 300 miles while the 180-kWh option makes the truck going up to 400 miles on a single charge. Both options come paired with four electric motors which are providing an impressive output of 750 horsepower and 820 pound-feet of torque. The powerful mill creates an impressive 0-60 mph time of around 3 seconds. A payload is limited to 1,763 pounds, while a towing capacity stops at 7,700 pounds.

Footprint and Bed

With 215.6 inches of length, the 2020 Rivian R1T is similar in size to today’s mid-size trucks, but that’s pretty much everything that the electric truck has in common with gasoline-powered rivals. Its 79.3-inch width and 135.8-inch wheelbase numbers are closer to full-size offerings. However, most of the space is exploited in order to make the truck’s cabin as comfortable as it’s possible. In other words, the bed gets just 55 inches in length, which is, you will agree, short even for mid-size pickup trucks.

Still, no matter how short it is, the bed is definitely one of the coolest features. It’s connected with the cabin with  a storage tunnel; on each side of the pickup is an access door, while the spare tire has been stored underneath the bed. The bed itself is scratch-resistant; it offers three 155-volt plugs and an air-compressor outlet, as well as a retractable cover that’s able to cover the entire bed. The tailgate is also quite useful as it drops down 180 degrees allowing easy access.

Design and Features

What to say about the exterior design of the 2020 Rivian R1T except it’s absolutely cool. Even though there’s nothing to be cooled down beneath the hood, the automaker decided to make an amazing grille that fits perfectly with a pair of vertical lights which are intersecting a horizontal light bar that’s stretching across the entire width. Since there is no engine under the hood, the carmaker made a trunk.

Like we said earlier, the truck offers a premium interior that’s highly comfortable. The comfort is additionally boosted by a sophisticated suspension system that combines a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, as well as a ride-height adjustable air-suspension. The 2020 Rivian is equipped with Level 3 autonomy and will offer over-the-air software updates.
