New Generation Ford Flex Will Come Never

It looks like there will be nothing from the new generation Ford Flex. According to the latest reports, the funky SUV is going to stick around until 2020, and then will be either killed or replaced. The rumors suggest that the car manufacturer already have the popular Explorer and needs to focus on its smaller lineup, so there is really no need for further investment in the slow-selling model. Moreover, Blue Oval plans to reintroduce the iconic Bronco until 2020, which is a reason more to cancel the Flex.

The current Ford Flex has been introduced in 2008 and refreshed 2013, but it was never too important part of Ford’s “caravan”. The demand for the unusual three-row crossover SUV has been increased during this year for 13 percent, which is quite unexpected. However, this is just 0.9 percent of Ford’s complete US sale, which is still pretty miserable.

In case you want to buy one, you have to know that the 2017 Ford Flex offers two drivetrains. Both options come with a 3.5-liter engine and a six-speed auto transmission. However, the base unit delivers around 287 horsepower and front- or all-wheel drive, while the optional EcoBoost mill produces around 365 hp that runs all four wheels.

Except of the good engine options and squared-off bodywork, the SUV also sports pretty cozy cab with maximum seating for seven passengers, as well as almost class leading cargo space. Ford offers pretty much the same technology with the Flex and Explorer. Moreover, except of the design, these two are pretty much the same, so we can’t figure out why the body SUV hasn’t managed to find its fans.

In any case, the Ford Flex will be canceled sometime in 2020.
