2016 BMW X1 — New-Gen Model will Get Front-Wheel-Drive Platform

An updated 2015 BMW X1 will not have enough time to show all its new features, because the carmaker already prepares the next generation model. The all-new BMW X1 will receive complete redesign this year, and it will be introduced before the end of this year. Except of the new interior and exterior styling, this compact SUV will receive something more important. Namely, for the first time BMW will move the 2016 BMW X1 crossover from a rear-wheel to front-wheel-drive platform.

2016 BMW X1: Changes and Redesign

Judging by the spy photos, the 2016 BMW X1 will have more dynamic and sleeker look. The vehicle will be a little bit shorter than before, which is caused due the new underpinning. It seems that the SUV features lots of new exterior details from a bigger X5, so the front fascia should get a larger kidney grille and aggressive bumper. In addition, there are restyled headlights and a little bit shortened hood. In the rear, the 2016 X1 will also feature some big changes. There are smoother taillights and sleeker bumper, while the car also gets a new set of exhaust pipes.

2016 BMW X1: Engines and Price

Since it will be moved to the new front-wheel-drive UKL platform, the 2016 BMW X1 will receive new engine options. An all-new 2.0-liter turbo four should be the powerful option, and it will produce 231 horsepower. A base unit will likely be a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine from MINI and the Active Tourer will be the base option, and it is rumored to deliver just 136 HP. BMW’s famous 3.0-liter inline-six should left out this time, but the carmaker will definitely offer a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain. Engines will be paired with a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission, while an all-wheel-drive will be an option.

As we already said, the 2016 BMW X1 will make its debut before the end of this year, and the probable price should go over $31,000.
