2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Introduced: Off-Road Pickup Truck Gets Supercar’s Suspension

Chevrolet’s long-time rumored off-road pickup truck has been finally introduced at this year Los Angeles auto show, and judging by what we saw, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is really something. It’s not just because of the impressive look, or capable powertrain, but due to the complete impression. Guys, this truck sports a supercar suspension system!

Amazing Suspension and Off-Road Kit

In case you think that this is just the regular Colorado with better makeup, we can assure you you’re wrong. The 2017 ZR2 is everything but not the ordinary pickup. Like we already said, the hot truck gets supercar’s damper technology. The DSSV spool valve dampers are highly adaptable and release the exact level of hydraulic fluid to the wheels, depending on the terrain or your way of driving. Essentially, the spool valve dampers are just the small cylinders that precisely control the passage of the hydraulic fluid through a suspension damper. Believe me, both riding and handling are totally different, and lots better.

In addition, truck’s chassis features front and rear electronic locking differentials and a locking transfer case. Compared to the regular model, the 2017 Colorado ZR2 gets around 3.5 inches wider front and rear tracks, as well as the standard hill-controls and off-road transmission mode. There are also the massive 17-inch wheels with 31-inch Goodyear DuraTrac tires.

Engine Options and Transmissions

Under the hood, you will be able to choose between two amazing options. There will be a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This mill is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In case you want something completely different, yet very capable, you can choose the oil-burner engine. Yes, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will definitely offer a 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder diesel, which produces 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. This unit is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. No matter it is a subsidiary activity for the off-road truck, the towing capacity is around 5,000 pounds. On the other hand, the payload is around 1,100 pounds.

Estimated Price

The amazing off-road pickup truck is essentially smaller from Ford’s Raptor, so we can’t say that these two can be some true rivals. However, Toyota’s Tacoma TRD Pro is the main competitor of Chevy’s new truck. Because of that, we expect the same or a bit lower starting price of the 2017 Colorado ZR2. Let’s say, it will cost around $40K.
