2017 Honda CR-V: Redesigned and Introduced

Honda’s new generation CR-V will debut very soon. The popular crossover will come as the 2017 model, and moreover, it will hit the dealership in December. However, the Japanese car manufacturer showed the redesigned 2017 Honda CR-V before its official debut, so we have plenty of details about the automaker’s second-bestselling vehicle.

The fifth generation of the popular SUV shows some pretty interesting details. The new bodywork is quite handsome especially in the front end that features a swept-back design. Both the headlights and grille are totally new. The grille looks very inspiring because of the chromed parts and plenty of angles. As for the headlights, the carmaker offers LED technology only on the upper trim levels. On the other hand, LED daytime running lights are standard for all versions. We have to say that fenders seem to be more flared, while the rear end sports completely new taillights and more aggressive bumper styling. Oh, we almost forgot to mention that A-pillar appears to be slimmed-down, which will definitely improve the visibility of the 2017 CR-V.

Except of the cosmetic changes, the 2017 Honda CR-V will also get a new platform. It’s the stretched version of Civic’s new underpinnings, which will make the compact crossover longer, wider and taller. Yes, the new generation CR-V is 1.2 inches longer and gains the additional 1.6 inches between the wheels, while it should be longer and taller for 1.4 inches. This will largely improve the interior room of the outstanding SUV. Reportedly, the rear seating will be boosted for around 2.1 inches, so it will offer 40.4 inches of legroom, which is really impressive. The redesigned CR-V will also feature a class-leading cargo volume. According to the carmaker, there will be around 39 cubic feet behind the rear seats.

The new interior is much more refined than before. The cab simply exudes luxury and premium feel, while the soft-touch materials cover most of the inside. There is an all-new infotainment system with a 7-0-inch touchscreen that uses Android operating system, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Of course, there is also an optional navigation system. On the other hand, dual-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a proximity-key system with remote start will be standard across the whole range.

The redesigned CR-V will feature an amazing safety system without any doubt. The compact crossover gets collision mitigation braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights.

In case you choose the range-topping 2017 Honda CR-V Touring, you won’t have to pay for any additional equipment, because the SUV offers everything you can imagine. Except of the aforementioned kit, the Touring sports full-LED headlights and ambient LED interior lighting, as well as two memory settings for the drivers. Do we have to mention it will be leather-upholstered with contrast stitching?

There will be two engine options available. The first is a retuned 2.4-liter inline-4 unit, which will have 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This one powers just the base LX version. As for the rest of the models (EX, EX-L and Touring), there will be Honda’s turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 that will be able to deliver 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of twist. No matter which one you choose, you will get the continuously variable automatic transmission, which is also improved a bit. The new engine isn’t the most powerful unit in the segment, but it will make the crossover very efficient. Moreover, some estimates claim it will feature the class-leading fuel economy.

The Japanese carmaker hasn’t said anything regarding the price, but we think that the starting price won’t be over $25K. In any case, we will found out very soon, because the all-new 2017 Honda CR-V is coming this December.
