2017 Mazda CX-9 Redesign: The SUV Becomes All Mazda’s

According to the latest reports, Mazda’s full size SUV will finally get the new generation suit. The seven seating vehicle will come fully redesigned sometime next year as the 2017 Mazda CX-9. The manufacturer has an idea to do a complete revamp, so the future full-sizer should feature the new design, platform and engine.

2017 Mazda CX-9: New Platform and Engne

Compared to the current generation that rides on Ford’s CD3 platform, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 will get its own underpinning, more precisely SkyActiv architecture. Except it won’t share the platform with Ford’s cars, the amazing SUV will also come significantly lighter. In addition, the current 3.7-liter engine, which is also Ford’s product, will be replaced with Mazda’s outstanding 2.5 SkyActiv-G engine, which will be able to deliver around 275 horsepower. The unit will be paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the standard front-wheel or optional all-wheel-drive.

2017 Mazda CX-9: Redesign and Changes

The exact exterior design is unknown at the moment, but since we have the first spy photos, we might see what is changed. The 2017 Mazda CX-9 will likely get a redesigned front fascia with Mazda’s new wing-like grille and restyled headlights that seems to look sleeker and more attractive, and also feature an adaptive LED. The future crossover really looks far more dynamic, which may be because of the lowered roofline and streamlined D-pillar. Mazda’s usual and distinctive the short rear overhang stays unchanged, but all together, the SUV really looks attractive and more modern. The interior will receive a completer redesign as well. We have no the exact details, but as we have heard, the carmaker plans to add soft touch materials and different trims. The vehicle will also get a different dash design and possibly new infotainment.

2017 Mazda CX-9: Price and Release Date

These are the first spy photos of the all-new Mazda CX-9, so it is just the start. The SUV has little chance to be ready before the end of this year, and the most likely release date is in the early 2016. Since it is the new generation, the carmaker will probably raise the starting price, but we think it won’t go over $33,000.

Updated 11/06/2015: The new-generation Mazda CX-9 will be introduced at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The carmaker has released the first teaser photo.
