2017 Mini Countryman Spied Again and Looks Ready for Production

It appears that the next generation Countryman won’t have much in common with its predecessor. The manufacturer decided to add more shoulders to the new model, so except it looks more rugged, the crossover has quite boxy design. The bodywork is also getting some new cues in the front, so as you can see, the new headlights are larger, while the bumper seems more massive. The carmaker redesigned a grille too, while the rear end sports bigger taillamps. The hatch is also restyled and has a spoiler integrated on the lid, while there is new a dual exhaust pipe setup. The 2017 Countryman will get more standard safety options, so you will see collision and pedestrian warning systems, as well as speed limit information system. The carmaker will also add a head-up display and parking assistant.

Engine Options

The 2017 Countryman is getting a new platform, so called UKL architecture, which will definitely enable more room inside. Except of the cozy cab, the chassis should make the crossover lighter, which should additionally improve the fuel economy. The vehicle will have a standard front- and optional all-wheel drive. The AWD model will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Still, if you don’t need than much power, there will be a base model with a 1.5-liter inline-3 engine. In both cases, you will be able to choose between the standard 6-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic gearboxes.

However, the most interesting option will be a plug-in hybrid model which is going to have an outstanding powertrain. A 1.5-liter TwinPower turbo three-cylinder engine will power the front wheels, while the electric motor will run the rear axle. The electric motor will be powered by a 7.7 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery. In contrast to the regular gasoline models, the plug-in crossover will use a six-speed Steptronic transmission only.

The 2017 Mini Countryman will be introduced at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, while the North American model should be revealed at the next Detroit Motor Show.
