2017 Opel Grandland Spy: The New Compact Crossover Is Coming Soon

The sweet and sexy Crossland X won’t be the only new crossover from Opel. The German car manufacturer is currently working on the all-new model, which will be introduced as the 2017 Opel Grandland X. Judging by the spy shots we have, the upcoming high-riding vehicle is almost ready, so it will arrive very soon, possibly at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Auto Show.

The camouflaged prototype hides the details, but some things are pretty clear. It’s evident that we are looking in the compact crossover, which features pretty much the same footprint as the new Peugeot 3008. These two are also sharing the EMP2 platform that’s highly flexible and lightweight. Essentially, the biggest differences will be on the exterior and interior styling. From our point of view, the 2017 Grandland X features a bit aggressive bodywork, especially in the front. We can’t say for sure because of the camo, but it appears that the crossover sports these days popular floating roof.

Inside, the 2017 Opel Grandland X won’t differ too much from the Crossland X, so except the high-quality materials, the cabin will also feature an eight-inch infotainment display. Of course, the system will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Crossover’s safety features include a range of useful systems such as Lane Keep Assist, Speed Sign Recognition, and Forward Collision Alert. The carmaker won’t skip the chance to add Opel Eye camera, as well as a Driver Drowsiness System and Adaptive Forward Lighting system.

According to the latest reports, the new compact crossover will use only Opel’s engines. Moreover, the automaker has no intention to add all-wheel drive system. No, there will be just a front-wheel drive available. However, if the vehicle turns out to be payable, they will likely add the AWD setup and some kind of hybrid powertrain. Still, until that happens, the 2017 Opel Grandland X won’t be able to compete with segment leaders such as the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Kadjar.
