2018 BMW X2 Spied in Cold Sweden (Looks Really Good)

Cold and snowy Sweden seems like a perfect place for winter tests, so these days the majority of the European car manufacturers are checking their new models, especially SUVs. We just caught BMW’s high-riding prototype, most likely the upcoming X2 while it was “skiing” down the track. In contrast the earlier mules, this prototype sports less camouflage, which provides us more information about the 2018 BMW X2.

The light camo actually reveals some pretty familiar cues. Judging by the spy shots, we can only conclude that the production model gets the same design as the concept that was previewed at this year Paris Motor Show. The front end clearly shows the identical hood and headlights, as well as the distinctive kidney grille. The only thing that’s different in the front is the bumper and air intakes. Well, it’s not different but a bit downsized and less wide. The roof stays ultra-sleek as before. After all, the X2 is BMW’s coupe-like SUV, so this was rather expected.  From our point of view, this will be the most beautiful crossover in the class, but this is a matter of taste.

While the 2018 BMW X2 sports pretty unique exterior styling, under the skin you will find pretty familiar bones. The future SUV actually shares the platform with the X1 model. But what’s more important, it will also share the powertrain options. However, in contrast to the European model that will have a range of three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, for North America, BMW’s smallest coupe-like crossover will probably offer just a single unit. Still, don’t you worry because the US drivers are getting the best possible mill. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of twist.

According to our insider, the sporty SUV will make the official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, while the North American drivers could expect the 2018 X2 at the next New York Auto Show. The price should start over $35K.
