2018 BMW X2: The all-new and aggressive coupe-like crossover SUV

The new BMW X1 crossover is almost here, and the carmaker works on its coupe-like sibling. The closest cousin of the X1 will be the 2018 BMW X2 SUV that features these days popular coupe styling and pretty the same characteristics as the X1. The all-new compact crossover will be available sometime in 2017 or in early 2018.

2018 BMW X2 gets UKL platform and a 2.0-liter turbo engine

Since it shares a lot with the X1, the 2018 BMW X2 will also ride on a same platform. It is the same underpinnings that also have the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer and the newest vehicles from MINI. The UKL architecture is designed for transverse-mounted engines and offers both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive setup, which is fitted to a Haldex-style multi-plate clutch system. Like the platform, the X2 will also share the engines, so the US version will definitely get a base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that will be paired to the AWD only and matted with an eight-speed auto transmission. The actual output is unknown at the moment, but if it be as X, you can expect 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which should be enough for a 0-60 sprint around 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

2018 BMW X2: Exterior design and price

The exact details about the styling are unknown at the moment, but still the camouflaged prototype shows some fantastic details. This time, the manufacturer has decided to make quite aggressive exterior design, pretty more aggressive than the existing X4 and X6 SUVs. The front of the vehicle features a wide, but low stance, and the rooflines are very, very low, while the windows come somehow short.

The all-new coupe-like crossover SUV will likely debut at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show, so the North American model should be introduced a little latter. In any case, the US-specs 2018 BMW X should be priced around $40,000.
