2018 BMW X3 Will Come Redesigned, Bigger and More Powerful

This is not the first time we see a testing vehicle for the new generation BMW X3, but it definitely the first time we look at the production-ready model. Yes, this is actually the prototype, which still sports some camouflage that’s ultra-thin, so we can anticipate what’s beneath. Except of the new shape, the 2018 BMW X3 will also get a notably larger footprint and new options under the hood.

New Styling, New Platform, More Inches, Less Pounds

As you may notice, the redesigned X3 is significantly bigger. Moreover, the new SUV seems to carries the same proportions as the current X5. However, this won’t have any negative influence on the curb weight. On the contrary, the vehicle will use the new CLAR platform, which should shed at least 200 pounds.

The new high-riding Bimmer will stretch the wheelbase as well. This will improve the interior space for sure. Since the car already features plenty of room inside, this increase may turn it into the class leading model. We already saw some part of the cab, so we are pretty sure what’s coming. The new dashboard appears to have a bit of everything. There are analogue with digital gauges, as well as free-standing infotainment system, which looks perfectly positioned for driver.

Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the 2018 BMW X3 will have everything you can possibly imagine. The German car manufacturer will start from the usual four- and six-cylinder engine, but there will be also a pair of amazing powertrains that will power the M40i and M40d. They will probably continue with some kind of plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will exist until the arrival of the all-electric X3 that’s going to be ready sometime in 2020. At the end of the road, there will be the range-topping X3 M, which is rumored to deliver 500 horsepower.

The 2018 X3 looks finished, but this doesn’t mean it will be available anytime soon. No, instead you can expect the all-new model sometime in 2017, most likely at the next Geneva auto show.
