Judging by the latest rumors, Chevrolet is working hard on the new generation Traverse crossover SUV. However, since we didn’t manage to catch the prototype yet, the all-new model will probably arrive sometime in 2017 as the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The large SUV will come completely overhauled, which includes everything, exterior and interior redesign and adding of some new powertrain.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse: New Design and Tech
This is all pretty speculative, yet we have heard that the second-generation SUV won’t have almost anything similar to the current model. The car manufacturer will probably largely improve aerodynamics, especially in the front end, which will feature an all-new look. The 2018 Traverse will likely get a new grille and bumper, as well as more attractive headlights, while the rear end should get completely different contours. Inside, the carmaker will definitely add GMC’s new IntelliLink touchscreen that includes new navigation and radio control. The cabin will feature modern design, and moreover, since the SUV gets new platform, it should be more space-efficient and cozy.
New Platform, New Engines, Lighter Body
Speaking of the platform, the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will ride on GM’s new C1XX architecture, which will also underpin the new generation Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. This way the full-size crossover will shed around 300 pounds and that will greatly improve the fuel economy, as well as handling and braking. The new generation Traverse will also offer two new engines. The first option will be a 3.6L V6 LGX that will be able to deliver 300 horsepower, while the more powerful option should be a 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 LGW(we have no the exact output figures yet). Both will be paired to either an eight-speed or a nine-speed automatic transmission, and matted to standard front-wheel or optional all-wheel-drive.
Price and Arrival
The 2018 Chevy Traverse will be released in early 2017, and the base price should be around $30,000.
