2018 Ford Flex: Redesign and Performance

We are not so sure about this, but according to the newest rumors, the Blue Oval Company is working on the new generation Flex SUV. Allegedly, the slow-selling vehicle is about to get one more chance, and the carmaker already works on the all-new model, which will be introduced sometime next year as the 2018 Ford Flex.

2018 Ford Flex: Engines and Platform

Except in California, the current model isn’t too popular, so the car manufacturer needs to redo a complete vehicle. In place of the present Volvo-derived Ford D3 platform, the 2018 Flex crossover will get a new CD6 architecture. This way, the body vehicle gets a possibility to shed some weights and receive some new engine options. The new generation Flex model will definitely lose its current Duratec V6, but it will add a 2.7-liter EcoBoost, which is capable of delivering 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. The solid SUV will likely have one more option, and according to speculations, is will have a new twin-turbo 3.5-liter engine, which will supposedly produce at least 400hp. As we see it, this must be the Raptors new mill, yet toned-down a little bit. Both engines should be paired with a standard six-speed automatic gearbox, but the 3.5-liter twin-turbo could also add an optional 10-speed transmission. By combining the new engine and gearbox with lighter body, the 2018 Ford Flex will definitely feature a way better fuel economy results.

2018 Ford Flex: Design Changes

The 2018 Ford Flex will receive a comprehensive redesign that will cover both exterior and interior. However, since we haven’t seen any prototype yet, we can only guess. From our point of view, Ford will try to make it more aggressive, less boxy and totally different. The front end might get the Raptor’s face, while the rear end could be more dynamic. Inside, the 2018 Flex crossover SUV might become more luxurious and modern, so the carmaker should add some premium materials, better tech, as well as the new infotainment and entertainment.
