2018 Jeep Wrangler Engines: A glimpse under the hood

We have spotted a number of Wrangler’s testing models over the year. The iconic off-road SUV is making pretty big waves this time, mostly because of the big number of engines. If everything goes according to plan, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be introduced with at least three totally different engines. Bearing in mind that the today’s model comes with just one option under the hood, it’s pretty clear that the car manufacturer will try to satisfy everyone’s wishes.

Hurricane

The popular nameplate is going to feature an all-new four-cylinder engine. You’ve probably heard already for the 2.0-liter turbo Hurricane mill? The option will reportedly be capable to pump out up to 300 horsepower. Even though it’s highly possible, we don’t believe that’s the whole idea. According to information we have, the engine will really deliver this 300 ponies, but the manufacturer will reportedly add one less potent unit for the base model.

Pentastar

As for the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar, it’s definitely going to be part of the show. Today’s option is producing 295 horsepower, which is more than enough for the 2018 Wrangler. However, the carmaker wishes to go one step further and enable more power from it. Now, we are not quite sure whether they will succeed in time, yet we know the updated V6 will be able to develop around 320 horsepower.

EcoDiesel

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler Diesel is also in the works. This is a smart move from the car manufacturer because it has a really impressive engine to offer. It’s the amazing 3.0-liter EcoDiesel of course. The oil-burner became popular thanks to the Ram 1500 and we are sure it’s going to be even more popular when it comes in a pair with world’s best off-road SUV. Anyway, the mill delivers 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of twist at the moment, but the carmaker is reconsidering to update the option, so it might add a few additional ponies.

Hybrid

That’s not all. Judging by the latest reports, the new generation Wrangler will have a hybrid powertrain as well. However, the option won’t be available right away. No, the Wrangler Hybrid will probably arrive a year later. We have to admit that we have nothing about it. Some rumors claim it’s going to be a mild hybrid with regenerative braking system, but they don’t say anything more precise about the powertrain at the moment.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be introduced at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show this December and we are sure it’s going to be the biggest star of the event, especially because of the range of engines which move the SUV on the next level.
