2018 Jeep Wrangler spotted again (new photos and details)

The new generation Jeep Wrangler is spotted once again. Until now, we saw just the testing mules, and this is the first time that we are actually seeing the new bodywork. The most anticipated off-roader is still buried under the heavy camouflage, but there are some fresh details about it. Judging by the spy photos, the testing prototype of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is getting more aerodynamics, yet it keeps its distinctive boxy look.

2018 Jeep Wrangler: Redesign

Although completely redesigned, the iconic SUV will maintain its body-on-frame nature. Still, the carmaker will cut some weight by using more aluminum for its construction. Hopefully, the 2018 Wrangler will keep its traditionally solid axles and ladder-frame chassis. What we know for sure is that the amazing vehicle is getting bigger footprint. It’s nothing revolutionary, but the front end is looking longer for sure. The SUV will also get highly aggressive front bumper, the new fenders seem widened, while the windshield appears to be slightly more raked.

2018 Jeep Wrangler: Engine Specs

The most interesting part of the next-gen Jeep Wrangler is hidden under the hood. The outstanding off-roader is rumored to add both diesel and hybrid options. Still, there are small chances to see them on the SUV’s debut. The most likely scenario is to see it with the current Pentastar V-6, which is going to be a little bit upgraded. As for the US-specs diesel and hybrid, this will happen two years later, so you can expect the 2020 Jeep Wrangled hybrid and diesel. The diesel model will definitely get the Ram’s 3.0-liter turbodiesel that currently delivers 240hp, but it could be boosted a bit. In any case, the engines will be paired with a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

Price and Arrival

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is scheduled to debut late this year, but it won’t go on sale before next spring. There is nothing official yet, but the new generation iconic off-roader should cost around $25K.

Updated 05/19/2016: We spotted the 2018 Wrangle once again, but this time with one pretty unexpected detail. The iconic off-road SUV seems to enter into completely new territory when it comes to the performance. Namely, the newest prototype we saw has a 2.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. This is maybe the small engine, but since produces 300 horsepower, the unit could be the excellent choice for the new-gen Wrangler. It will deliver enough power for off-roading abilities, and yet it will achieve good fuel economy. The mill will be paired to an updated eight-speed automatic transmission, which promises to additionally boost SUV’s fuel economy numbers.
