2018 Kia Stonic Will Be Juke’s Biggest Rival

Kia’s new subcompact SUV has finally got a name. According to a report from Kia-World, the Korean car manufacturer has recently trademark “Stonic” moniker, and they are absolutely positive that this will be the nameplate of the new Kia B-Segment crossover. What’s more important, the manufacturer almost finished the 2018 Kia Stonic, so the vehicle should be introduced pretty soon. The upcoming Geneva Motor Show would be the most logical choice, but it is reserved for the new and amazing Stinger and Picanto. This means that the 2018 Stonic won’t arrive before either Paris or Frankfurt auto show.

The prototypes we spied so far were completely wrapped, but this doesn’t mean we don’t know what’s cooking beneath the heavy camouflage. The upcoming Stonic crossover will have a lot in common with the KX3 model. Yes, this vehicle is specially made for China, but the new B-Segment SUV will likely borrow the architecture and some of the styling cues, while the rest of the exterior might come from the interesting Provo concept. This way, Kia’s new high-riding vehicle could be as funky as the Nissan Juke, which is the most popular subcompact currently available. As for the interior and tech, well let’s say it will get the same options as the current Soul. At least we think so.

The 2018 Kia Stonic will get at least two engine options. We think that the base model might use a 2.0-liter engine. The mill currently delivers 164, which is more than enough for decent performance. On the other hand, the topping model will probably have a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, which is capable of producing around 200 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The powertrains will be paired with a six-speed manual (standard) and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (optional).

The 2018 Kia Stonic won’t hit Europe only. The subcompact will also arrive in North America. the first stop should be the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
