2018 Mazda CX-7 Will Definitely Come Back (First Details and Specs)

Although we thought otherwise, Mazda’s CX-7 crossover might actually revive in the next two or three years. This is because the carmaker has no plans to offer the all-new CX-4 to the North American drivers. Instead, the Japanese producer will offer the completely redesigned 2018 Mazda CX-7, which will likely share most of the characteristic with the CX-4. The only thing that will differ is the size, because the new-gen CX-7 will have considerably larger footprint.

2018 Mazda CX-7: Styling and Features

The exterior layout of the next generation CX-7 will definitely feature these days popular coupe-like bodywork. Mazda will us most of the amazing Koeru concept, so the upcoming crossover should feature an ultra-sleek design with plenty of interesting details in the front and rear. In the front, you will find a sculpted and massive hood, as well as shield-shaped grille. Grille’s frame extends into the headlamps, which will be really aggressive and pretty handsome. The sporty appearance continues to the rest of the car, so you can expect a slopping roof and sporty profile. Around back, you will find pretty interesting rear hatch with large grille and massive bumper. The crossover will likely sport plenty of chrome details all around, while you can expect some fancy alloy wheels.

The interior styling will be all Koeru without any doubt. The carmaker will also use several details from the CX-5 too, so you can expect pretty the same steering wheel. On the other hand, the infotainment system will sport totally different touchscreen, which will be free-standing. In contrast to chromed exterior, the cab will feature only aluminum accents that will make the crossover more premium and luxurious. Of course, the seats will be covered with leather only, which will likely get some contrast stitching.

Under The Hood

The 2018 CX-7 won’t get its own platform. Instead the SUV will borrow CX-5 architecture, which will be stretched a bit. The manufacturer will also add a new suspension system, which will largely improve the handling and cornering. There should be MacPherson front and a multi-link system in the rear. The upcoming crossover will have a range of engine. A 2.0-liter SkyActiv unit with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet will be the base option, while the 2.5-liter SkyActiv comes as an option. This unit will deliver around 184 horsepower 185 lb-ft of torque. The carmaker could also reconsider to add an oil-burner option. It should be a 2.2-liter diesel unit with 173 ponies and 310 lb-ft of twist. The engines will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and front- and all-wheel drive.

There is nothing official regarding the price of the 2018 Mazda CX-7, but we say it will start at around $25K.
