2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon: Quick Review of The Fastest Wagon

Mercedes’ luxury division was cheeky enough to introduce the most powerful family hauler we ever saw. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon made its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and brought a ridiculous amount of power.

Believe it or no, the AMG E63 S Wagon features a mighty 4.0-liter V-8 that is rated at 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, the system enables an impressive 0-60 mph sprint of 3.4 seconds. That’s not all. Top speed is limited to 180 mph, so you can almost fly with the wagon. Mercedes add five drive modes and one… well one, special mode. There are Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual. They are totally different and very important because thus you can control response to the transmission, suspension, steering, stability control, and all-wheel drive. As we said, there is one more, so-called M mode, which is basically for manual shifting. OF course, the shifting works through steering wheel paddles.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon is essentially different underneath from the regular E-Class wagon. The new suspension is mainly made from forged aluminum components, which is really great. Up front, the car sports four-link suspension along with strut rods and spring links, while it the back, the carmaker improved dynamics with a new electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.

Styling wise, the 2018 AMG E63 S Wagon gets several tweaks that set it apart from the regular model. There is a completely new front bumper, while the rear end sports chrome quad tailpipes. Along the sides, the wagon features pretty aggressive and low sills. The front wheel arches are wider for 1.1 inches because the car has a wider track and wider wheels.

The interior is really gorgeous. There are sports seats and Nappa leather treatment on the dash, beltlines, and steering wheel. This is not any steering wheel, but the AMG Performance steering. A 12.3-inch instrument cluster happens to offer three designs, so you can choose between Classic, Sport, and Progressive. Mercedes’ Drive Pilot semi-autonomous driving system is the standard part of the wagon, as well as the 40/20/40 rear seats split.

The carmaker hasn’t announced the price of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon, yet we think it will cost at least $100K. The vehicle will hit the showrooms this fall, but it will be available only by special order.
