2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4² Spied: The Pickup Looks Really Mighty

We just spied a mysterious pickup truck while it was doing some off-road tests on snow. The vehicle clearly comes from Mercedes’ AMG department and seems almost ready for production, so it might arrive along with the new generation G-Class SUV. According to Motorauthority.com, the all-new pickup will be named the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4², which is rather expected because the car manufacturer offers a similar six-wheeler and calls it the Mercedes-AMG’s G63 6×6.

This new truck comes with four wheels only and sports AMG’s distinctive details such as the single-slat grille and larger air intakes. Judging by the spy shots, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4² sports pretty long wheelbase, so it’s likely that shares its platform with the bigger and more expensive sibling. It features plenty of similar cues as well. Truck’s ground clearance is really impressive, while the widened wheel arches make the 17-inc wheels a lot smaller from their real dimensions. We don’t guarantee you, but the lofty ground clearance usually brings a permanent all-wheel drive system without the conventional axle setup. Instead, there is three differential locks and portal axles, as well as a reduction transfer case.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4² will have only one engine option, but we can’t say for sure whether the manufacturer plans to offer a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 or a new biturbo 4.0-liter V8. The 5.5-liter mill is capable of producing 563 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for the topping pickup truck. In another case, you can count on around 510 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of twist.
