2018 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer GSi caught without camouflage

You don’t have to agree with us, but we guarantee you that there is no better family vehicle from a good wagon, especially if the car gets a high-performance treatment. There are several exceptions, yet we can also say that the best of the kind usually come from Germany. After we saw Audi’s Mercedes’ and BMW’s high-end wagons, one more German carmaker decided to add such a model. It’s the 2018 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer GSi. The undisguised vehicle has been spied shortly after the sedan sibling, so we suppose that the producer plans to introduce both at this year Frankfurt Motor Show.

This hot red exterior styling suits perfectly to the Sports Tourer GSi, but the overall impression will be even better when they add red Brembo brake calipers instead of the current black brakes. According to our source, this will definitely happen, so the large wheels should look far better than now. As for the rest of the design, the high-end wagon sports a handsome nose with a nice grille and large air intakes below. A dual exhaust layout in the rear bumper announces there is something impressive under the hood.

In place of today’s turbocharged 2.8-liter V6, the all-new 2018 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer GSi will get a 2.0-liter turbo producing 260 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The impressive engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which will send power to all four wheels. The carmaker hasn’t revealed any fuel economy numbers at the moment, but taking into account that the new wagon sports more efficient engine and significantly fewer kilograms than the predecessor (around 160), the performance segment will be improved without any doubt.

We haven’t seen the interior yet, so we can’t really say what’s cooking inside. However, according to the latest report, the 2018 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer GSi will feature 520 liters of cargo space, which is pretty impressive.

Stay tuned for updates.
