2018 Peugeot 1008: All-new three-door SUV spotted for the first time

No, this is not the existing 208 model, but the testing mule of the all-new 2018 Peugeot 1008. The French car manufacturer plans to introduce as many crossovers as it’s possible, so it’s not a wonder at all why they are making this ultra-small high-riding vehicle.

Since it features the suit of the 208 is was really difficult to figure out what’s going on beneath. However, the testing model sports significantly higher ride and wider wheel arches, which are the main reasons why we believe it’s actually the 2018 Peugeot 1008. Of course, the production model will get a different design, but it will have pretty much the same footprint as the testing mule. Judging by the latest reports, the smallest Peugeot high-rider will borrow plenty of styling cues from the HR1concept, which was the case with the bigger 2008. However, in contrast to the larger sibling which is a five-door model, the all-new SUV will have just three doors.

Even though the vehicle looks like it’s going to be a decent off-roader, that’s won’t be the case for sure. Instead, the tiny crossover will use front-wheel drive only without a single possibility to turn off the road. Power will come from a range of different three-cylinder turbocharged engines, which will be mated to a manual transmission. Of course, there will be an optional automatic gearbox, but the potential buyers will have to set aside some extra money. The car manufacturer will offer both diesel and gasoline engines, yet there will be no hybrid option available.

The mini SUV is in an early phase of development, so it won’t be introduced this year. Instead, the French automaker will probably schedule the official debut for the next year’s Paris auto show.
