2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country Is Really Beautiful and Truly Capable

No, this is not the new XC90 crossover, and no it’s not the V90 wagon, but the all-new and really amazing 2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country. The interesting vehicle is actually something between the crossover and regular wagon, so it can easily become very popular. Moreover, the gorgeous bodywork could easily take a big share from crossovers, especially in the North America. Yes, we know that the US driver don’t like wagons too much, but the Cross Country is something completely different, because the Swedish car manufacturer raised the ride height, and again kept wagon’s styling cues.

2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country: Official Specs

The 2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country uses the SPA platform, which already underpins all other 90 models. Still, the architecture isn’t the only thing that will share with the regular wagon. Basically, these two are pretty the same vehicles, except the Cross Country features several extras. The most obvious difference is the ride height, which is higher for 2.5 inches. This way, the wagon gets around 8.4 inches of ground clearance, and this is really great. In addition, there are bigger wheels that indicate there will be more off-road adventures. As for the cosmetics, the car appears to feature more ruggedness from the regular model. This is due the interesting additions like bigger bumpers and wheel archers.

We would lie if we say that we haven’t expecting more from the interior design. Don’t get us wrong. The cab is really fine, but it’s also absolutely identical to the V90’s. The dash gets the same 9-inch touchscreen, while a steering wheel hosts a number of functions. The manufacturer also added unchanged entertainment and stereo system. By the way, the stereo is Bowers & Wilkins, which is really great. The 2018 Cross Country sports pretty cozy seats with heating, cooling and massaging options. Both front and rear seating is ultra-spacious for this kind of vehicle, while the seats feature leather upholstery with contrast stitching.

Four Or Five Engines

The new Cross Country looks really great and features rather impressive equipment, yet the best part lie under the hood. The outstanding wagon offers four different engine options, so you can choose between two gasoline units and two diesels. The base model will use the T5 2 .0-liteengine that delivers 254 horsepower at 5,500 rpm 258 pound-feet of twist at 1,500 rpm. According to the carmaker, it achieves 32 mpg combined. The second T6 mill produces 320 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, yet a bit lower fuel economy, which stops at 31 mpg combined. As for the oil-burners, there is a D4 engine with 190 hp and 295 lb-ft and D5 mill that develops 235 ponies and 354 lb-ft. These options are very efficient, so you can expect 45 and 44 mpg combined. There is also a big possibility to see an amazing plug-in T8 hybrid engine, but not right away. The impressive powertrain gets 400 horsepower, 472 pound-feet of torque, so it will be pretty interesting to see this station wagon with this much power. All options are paired to the AWD only and eight-speed automatic transmission. In case you want the manual, there will be the six-speed option, but just with the base D4 engine.
