In contrast to other car blogs that don’t know what is under the camouflage, we are absolutely sure that the testing model hides the Volvo’s next compact crossover. Yes, this is the upcoming 2018 Volvo XC40, and no, it’s not the Geely model, as some other media announced earlier this day.
2018 Volvo XC40 Styling
These spy shots don’t reveal much. Moreover, the prototype is totally wrapped, so we can only suppose what’s hidden. However, judging by the overall bodywork, the production-ready XC40 won’t be too different from the concept model that was previewed earlier this year. This especially refers on the front end, which gets a dominant grille and a lightening cluster that will be pretty similar to the new XC90. On the other hand, the rear end sports a bit different design that lost the concept’s liftback styling. Still, the compact crossover will definitely look dynamic and pretty interesting. From our point of view, the 2018 XC40 will be the biggest rival of the Nissan Juke, so you can expect something similar, but better. At least we think so.
Powertrain Options and Platform
The handsome layout isn’t everything you will get from the 2018 Volvo XC40. The upcoming crossover will ride on the amazing Common Modular Architecture (CMA), which include a big number of necessary adjustments. This way, the vehicle won’t have just the interesting engine options, but also an amazing driving abilities and great handling. In the powertrain department, the car will offer really a wide range of both gasoline and diesel, as well as some kind of electric options. Of course, the carmaker won’t miss out to offer a new T5 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid drivetrain and a seven-speed twin clutch automatic.
