2019 Ram 1500 Limited Caught Testing Ahead of 2018 NAIAS

It’s not any secret at all that Ram prepares its new generation half-ton pickup truck for the upcoming 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Moreover, we’ve spotted a number of testing models over the year. This time, however, you can see a special version, so-called 2019 Ram 1500 Limited while it’s checking out its future abilities for the last time before the official debut.

More Chrome and More Space

The fancier version of Ram’s most popular workhorse has been getting a brand new face. The truck sports a unique grille, different from the rest of the lineup, which is surrounded by chrome. The headlights are definitely more attractive than earlier and LED-accented of course. In case you didn’t notice, the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited sports new six-spoke rims, which are chromed, too. The profile seems to be more streamlined, but that’s not as important as the size of the cabin. This is definitely the Crew Cab model, but the footprint may jeopardize the Mega Cab territory. The extra space will be exploited to boost the rear-seat arrangement.

Steal Made Of Steel

The new Limited model (as well as the rest of the lineup) will use a new architecture. However, FCA won’t “copy-paste” Ford’s aluminum philosophy. Instead, the truck will stick to the steel. Don’t get us wrong, there will be certain weight sawing, yet not as dramatic as Blue Oval did with the last F-150. Anyway, the pickup truck will likely improve rigidity, yet coil springs with optional air suspension stay as they are now. On the other hand, there will be new tailgate options, probably 60/40 split unit. The rear end also sports a dual exhaust layout, which is also a new detail. We haven’t managed to see inside of the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. However, some earlier prototypes have shown a larger infotainment screen and a number of styling changes, so we suppose this will be the case with the Limited version as well.

Engines

The carmaker is still hiding future powertrains, yet we are pretty sure that they won’t skip the chance to offer both V6 and V8 units, as well as a hybrid, which will mostly rely on a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The next-gen Ram 1500 will also host an oil-chugging mill. The diesel will use the updated version of the current 3.0-liter EcoDiesel, which will reportedly have more power and torque.

The redesigned pickup truck will definitely look more attractive from the predecessor but remains to be seen whether is going to be better from the predecessor or not. We believe it’s going to be significantly better, yet let’s wait for the official debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in January.
