2020 Buick Encore Spotted Testing: Redesigned Crossover Is Becoming Larger

SUVs are still the hottest merchandise on the automobile market, so it’s no wonder at all why manufacturers constantly improve existing and make new high-riding models. Buick, for instance, introduced an updated version of the Encore last year and they are working on the all-new model already. The camouflaged testing vehicle has been spotted in Detroit a day ago. Since it’s in an early development phase, we can’t really figure out what’s going to change when the 2020 Buick Encore arrives sometime next year.

Judging by the spy shots, the 2020 Encore will have a bit larger footprint. Though, it’s not going to get an all-new but just updated platform which will reportedly help the crossover to reduce its curb weight. In addition, the redesigned exterior will probably borrow most of the details from Buick’s latest models, such as the Buick LaCrosse, the Enclave, and sixth-gen Buick Regal. The front end looks a bit more dynamic even now, while the camouflage probably hides new winged grille and a pair of subtly furrowed headlights.

Inside, the SUV will definitely offer more space thanks to the larger footprint. The extra room will be used for the rear-seat space and cargo. The car manufacturer will probably try to fix the biggest flaws of the current cabin, which means that the new-gen Encore could get a center console with an armrest for both of the front passengers. Of course, they will update the existing infotainment, so a glossy 8.0-inch IntelliLink touchscreen should become standard. The latest active safety features such as automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control will be standard.

Performance-wise, the next-generation Buick Encore will definitely add a more powerful option. The current model offers 153 hp in the most-potent suit, which simply is not enough compared to the biggest rivals. We would like to see a 2.0-liter turbo-four unit with 270 horsepower, but we will see what the carmaker has to say about that. Regardless of the engine that the carmaker decides to add it will probably be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 2020 Buick Encore is not going to be introduced this year, but most likely in the first months of 2019.
