2020 Chevrolet Trax: Redesigned Small SUV Spied Testing

Chevy introduced a refreshed version of its small crossover last year. The updated model, however, won’t last long, because the automaker works on the totally redesigned 2020 Chevrolet Trax already. The testing prototype has been spotted somewhere in Detroit. As you can see, the manufacturer uses quite heavy camouflage, so it’s still pretty hard to figure out what’s going to be changed. Still, according to the newest reports, Chevrolet’s smallest SUV available will reportedly get a completely new design, different dimensions, and more power under the hood.

Don’t worry about the footprint of the redesigned baby crossover, because it’s not going to be smaller from its predecessor. It’s going to be the other way around: the 2020 Trax will get some extra inches in length and width. Plus, the manufacturer will add a few inches between wheels. Aside it’s going to be larger the new-gen model will reportedly ride on a completely new platform. As far as we found out, the carmaker will employ the VSS-S platform that is able to support a really big number of models. The main benefit of the new platform should be a passenger-friendly cabin, which will reportedly provide more room.

Styling changes are still unclear, but we can clearly see one big difference. The new-generation Chevrolet Trax seems to have a new profile that mirrors the new Blazer. More precisely, these two will have the identical C-pillar. Up front, the camouflaged prototype reveals slime headlights, while the rear end appears to be bulkier than earlier and fitted with larger taillights.

In the powertrain department, the carmaker prepares an updated version of today’s 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. Still, we have no clue how powerful it’s going to be the option from the current one that delivers 138 horsepower, but we expect at least 10% more. In addition, the manufacturer will probably spice up things with an optional 9-speed automatic transmission. The existing 6-speed auto gearbox will stay standard though.

Since the automaker introduced the updated model last year we don’t expect the completely redesigned 2020 Chevy Trax before late 2019. Meaning, it’s going to become available for sale in early 2020.
