2020 Genesis GV80 SUV: Testing Mule Spotted Outside

No, you are not looking into any kind of Santa Fe prototype. This is something completely different. Well, okay, it’s not a totally different vehicle, but it surely doesn’t come from Hyundai’s garage. Instead, the crossover comes from the carmaker’s premium department. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the first ever testing mule of the future, most likely 2020 Genesis GV80 SUV. We say most likely because the new “hot-chocolate” high-riding vehicle should make its debut sometime in 2019. Not earlier.

The manufacturer is using the bodywork of the current Hyundai Santa Fe, but we are positive that we are looking into the Genesis SUV because the mule hosts a modified body. In case you don’t see, the wheelbase is definitely extended, while the track appears to be wider. Still, the most important clue is crossover’s wheels, which feature Genesis badging.

The 2020 Genesis GV80 SUV isn’t going to look like this of course. Hyundai’s luxury brand previewed the design earlier with the GV80 Concept. The production model will likely be toned down and might skip the uncommon and too weird headlight design. Or may not? In any case, the rest of the front end will probably be a part of the production design, especially the smooth and sex hood and even better mesh grille. The manufacturer won’t touch concept’s coupe-like rooflines for sure because thus the crossover is going to look very attractive. As a matter of fact, the GV80 SUV will reportedly keep most of the styling cues which are previewed by the concept.

The most interesting part of the testing mule is glued to a window. There is the sticker which says 3.5G 4WD AT. The label signifies an all-wheel-drive, an automatic transmission, and a 3.5-liter engine. The engine is brand’s all-new V6 and since it’s still in development phase, we have nothing on it. However, the SUV is not going to rely on pure gasoline option. No, the manufacturer plans to add a plug-in hybrid option as well. The information has been confirmed by Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski, so this will definitely happen.

Do we need to say that the 2020 Genesis GV80 SUV is going it arrive in North America? The sub-brand has developed its own dealership network in the U.S., which means that the high-riding vanilla car will definitely come here. Moreover, the newest rumors suggest that the crossover should arrive early next year at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show first and after that worldwide.
