Even though it doesn’t look that way at first glance, this subcompact crossover hides a really powerful mill under the hood. That’s because this one comes from the automaker’s performance division. We can tell that thanks to the outlandish two-tone alloys which come coupled with grippy tires and beefier red brake calipers, as well as due to some extra openings in the front fascia and dual exhaust tips around back. Unfortunately, the entire job hasn’t been done yet, so we can’t tell how exactly is going to look like the top-dog Kona. Moreover, we don’t really expect the 2021 Hyundai Kona N to be revealed and ready for sale before the second half of the next year.
Performance-wise, as far as we know, the company will hook the high-performance model to a powerful powertrain. If everything goes according to the plan, the 2021 Kona N will blow away the competition since neither of the rivals isn’t going have enough power under the hood to cope with Hyundai’s all-new 2.0-liter T-GDI engine. The option will reportedly pump out 270 horsepower and will be paired with the company’s new in house dual-clutch transmission. Taking into account that the standard Kona offers a 147-hp engine, while the EV stays limited to 201 hp, it’s quite clear that we are dealing with a really mean little bastard.
In addition to the powerful mill, special brakes, and alloys, the 2021 Hyundai Kona N is getting stiffer suspension as well. Plus, the Korean car manufacturer will not skip the chance to add the usual N tweaks inside of the cabin, including special trims and sports seats.
