Jeep Yuntu Concept SUV Teased Ahead of 2017 Shanghai Auto Show

The upcoming 2017 Shanghai auto show will host one pretty interesting concept SUV. It’s not official yet, but we believe it’s going to be named the Jeep Yuntu. This is basically a seven-seat hybrid SUV with a modern, handsome design and one totally new powertrain. The car manufacturer released several teaser shots, so we know how it will look the Jeep Yuntu from the outside. However, everything else is still one big mystery.

As we have heard, the concept SUV will definitely introduce Jeep’s completely new plug-in hybrid technology. This is very important to know because the powertrain should become available with other Jeep’s SUV. Of course, this won’t happen right away, in several two or three years.

As for the Jeep Yuntu concept, well the ‘Yuntu’ stands for ‘cloud’ in China. Now, we don’t see clouds anywhere here, but we have to admit that the SUV looks pretty interesting. It sports some amazing elements like a floating roof and a dynamic hood, as well as several borrowed styling cues such as the wheel arches, which we have seen already with the all-new Compass. Of course, the vehicle features Jeep’s signature grille and pretty aggressive headlights. Don’t be confused with these quite big wheels; they are oversized because it’s the concept. The Jeep Yuntu won’t go anywhere far off the road. We know it is not for off-roading adventures due to its low departure angle, which enables on-road drive only.

The Jeep Yuntu is positioned between the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, so it might be interesting for production. After all, it’s fitted with a third-row of seats and efficient powertrain, which makes it a perfect candidate.
